Zweite Heimat
The Zweite Heimat (German for “second home”) is a single-vineyard Silvaner from one of our satellite vineyards near the village of Rödelsee. Unlike our other vineyards, the soil here is Keuper bedrock. The grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing maceration, during which fermentation begins slowly. After ten days, the wine is pressed and fermentation continues in a large oak barrel. It then ages in the barrel until being racked into a tank before the next harvest, where it remains until bottling.
