Kleine Heimat
Kleine Heimat is a single-vineyard Silvaner from one of our satellite sites near the village of Rödelsee. Unlike most of our vineyards, the bedrock here is Keuper rather than limestone.
The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then left to macerate as fermentation slowly begins. After about a week, the wine is pressed and fermentation continues in a large oak barrel, where the wine also matures.
Before the following harvest, the wine is racked to tank, where it rests until bottling, around eighteen months after the grapes were picked.
With noticeable yet gentle tannins, juicy acidity, and notes of pear and herbs, Kleine Heimat is a complex but approachable orange wine with the ability to age over many years.
