Heimat
Heimat is the Silvaner it all started with. Forty-year-old vines grow on a limestone hill close to the winery, a vineyard that has been farmed organically since the 1990s. Over time, we leased equally old Silvaner parcels directly adjacent to it, vinifying them separately and selecting the most convincing barrels for the final blend.
Skin contact has been the defining element of Heimat since 2013. The wine is built from numerous small lots, fermented on the skins and aged separately in old barrique barrels. This approach allows us to compose the final Heimat as a precise blend from many nuanced expressions rather than following a fixed recipe. In the following summer, all barrels are racked and the final cuvée rests in tank for another six months before bottling.
Silvaner is the most sensitive variety in our region when it comes to reflecting both the character of a vintage and the condition of the soil. Among all our Silvaners, Heimat tells the story of a year most clearly.
Always herbaceous, with notes of elderberry, dried apricot and orange peel, it changes slightly every vintage while remaining unmistakably itself. A wine that welcomes oxygen and has the ability to age for a long time.
